victory!

so yesterday afternoon budd and I got home from doing I-dunno-what, and the cat didn't meet us at the door.
we walked in and saw her halfway up the stairwell looking out the window and shaking her little butt (like she does when she's fixing to pounce).

we called her and she didn't turn, so we went up the stairs to see what the excitement was.

birds at the bird feeder!
3 of them!
woooooooh

I wouldn't call it an excellent combat system

so I spent about all of yesterday playing batman: aa, and I think I like it.
I was reading a review over at cad and he says something I thought was funny and really true (my jumping skills still suck).

"In a lot of action/platformer games, if you misstep and fall down a pit, it's the end of the road, load from last checkpoint. But frankly, it would look pretty stupid if Batman met his end because he misjudged a distance and dove flailing into a ravine.
No, in Arkham Asylum, if you fall into a pit (or whatever environmental trap it happens to be) the game says "Excuse me, we noticed you're an idiot... would you like to save face?", and gives you a couple of seconds to have Batman fire off his grappling gun and get himself out of whatever sudden mess you put him in. Because he's the goddamn Dark Knight, and it's what he does."

overall I'm enjoying the game, though I wish there was an option to hide the little secrets map so I wouldn't get distracted and spend half an hour looking for the secret and then budd comes in and finds it for me quite promptly. >_<
the combat in it is pretty dumbed down, but it has allowed me to not get beaten to death at every turn (for the most part).
also, there's an annoying part right whenever it's time to capture harley quinn.
and I especially don't like having to hold "A" to run, since the right analog stick is camera movement and the left stick is movement. wtb "right trigger=awesome" like in prototype.

finally cracked open a can of canada dry

I'd been saving it for a special occasion.
today I drove myself to work ^_^

my eyes are a ton better; I don't have to go back to see the doc until sept 9!
I got taken off the dilating drops when I went in to see him on wednesday, but my vision was still blurry yesterday.

and... we went to see gi joe and I thought it was great fun.
oh and my niece is having a child!
not much else I can think of.

the pretty lights

whenever I close my eyes I see lights.
you know how when you have snow on your tv? instead of the white pixels I'm seeing red and black, and I've got a big sunspot right about the center that has..
you know that windows screensaver called pipes? I think it's called pipes.
in the sunspot I've got pipes that are bright dark blue and going a zillion times faster than the screensaver.

I taste eyedrops in my mouth.
at least it doesn't hurt anymore (did I mention I had a stabbing pain behind my right eye every time I tried to focus on anything?), but the drops that keep my pupils dilated (so it doesn't hurt anymore) also make my vision all blurry.
I've got my monitor at work set to 1152x864 just so I can make out words.
fun times.
don't get me wrong, though; I'll take blurry vision over stabbing pain any day.

it was not pinkeye!

on one hand, I'm so glad that this is not the type of pain that is usually associated with pinkeye.
on the other hand, iritis sucks ass.

"To shrug."

"If you saw Atlas, the giant who holds the world on his shoulders, if you saw that he stood, blood running down his chest, his knees buckling, his arms trembling but still trying to hold the world aloft with the last of his strength, and the greater the effort the heavier the world bore down upon his shoulders -- what would you tell him to do?"
"I don't know. What could he do? What would you tell him?"

not that I've started rereading it, but I do believe that's one of my favorite quotes.
I'm just waiting around on my sis to get here so we can go by the dr's office, since I am not entirely convinced pinkeye should be this painful. certainly not for this long.
guess we'll see what the dr says.
